Anchor's away again after major refurbishment

Published: 3/1/08

The Anchor at Wadesmill has reopened after a refurbishment that has helped to create 15 new jobs, doubling the number of staff.

The former lock-keeper’s cottage, which is managed by landlord Peter Vaughan, has been completely refurbished and offers a great new Two for One deal.

“Because it’s a listed building, we’ve had to be very sympathetic to the old style,” explained Peter. “However, we’ve managed to create more space, revive the old beams and woodwork and install a brand new kitchen.”

The Anchor is now a new Two for One pub, which is a family-friendly and offers two main meals for the price of one every day. To make this even more tempting, the more spacious restaurant area boasts a large menu of starters, main courses, desserts and 25 specials every day. The menu includes a large selection of imaginative vegetarian dishes, and you can mix and match main meals from the menu and specials to make the most of the 241 offer.

“The restaurant also has its own serving area for drinks,” added Peter. “So diners don’t have to worry about queuing up when the main bar’s busy.”

Over all, the Anchor is now more comfortable, with softer furnishings all round, larger seats and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

“We’re really pleased with how it’s all turned out,” Peter said. “It’s an even better pub than ever.”
