Spennymoor, founded over 160yrs ago, is situated 7 miles from the historical city of Durham, well known for its Norman cathedral and 11th century castle – home to Durham university. Popular local attractions include Whitworth Hall Country Park, home to the Shafto family for over 300yrs and Spennymoor leisure centre which houses ‘a state of the art’ regional gymnasium centre, funded by the national lottery, sport England and Sedgefield borough council, and is among the most modern in the country. The DURHAMGATE site is the largest mixed use regeneration scheme in County Durham, covering an area the size of 2 football pitches and is set to be a great leisure destination.
