The Shire Horse pub in Killingworth is brand new but is already making history

Youngsters from Moor Edge Primary School sent a message to the future by burying a time capsule in the grounds of our new pub The Shire Horse in the heart of Killingworth.

Newspapers, letters, drawings, and photographs were all included in the pupil’s time capsule.

The Shire Horse offers an all day carvery alongside a traditional pub menu in a family friendly atmosphere.
Lesley Clelland, headteacher at Moor Edge Primary School, said: “This was such a great idea. This really challenged the children to think about history by leaving items in the time capsule to be discovered in the future.”

A plaque will also be put up at the Shirehorse with the date of when the capsule was buried.

Steve Foster, who manages The Shire Horse with his wife Julie, said: “The time capsule is not only a fascinating project for youngsters to take part in, but it’s also quite symbolic for us too – we’re at the exciting beginning of something new with the Shirehorse which will be around for generations of families to enjoy.”
